#2 Pined it- Tried it-

... LOVED IT!

You can find me on Pinterest HERE!

Last week I found a neat idea on Pinterest that I wanted to give a try- It's a home made serving stand.

The author of this beautiful serving dish used:
*2 different sized plates
*1 bowl
*E-6000 Glue
*2 candle holders

I loved this idea so much I wanted to try it for myself! I am the Queen of serving plates & dishes but I didn't have anything like this! How neat right?

Here's how to recreate what I did!

I used:
*2 different sized plates (that match my kitchen perfectly)
*1 bowl
*2 candle holders
*fake roses
*blue beads
*hot glue

All of these items were purchased at the Dollar Tree near my neighborhood.

First I started with the bigger plate and hot glued the candle holder to the middle (as best as possible).
I then filled the candle holder with the blue beads and 1 single fake rose bud.

Second, I very neatly put hot glue around the top of the candle holder and placed the smaller plate in the middle atop that. (again, as best as possible)
Then I hot glued the last candle holder to the smaller plate, just a slight different angle from the first.

I then filled the second candle holder with the beads and rose bud.

This alone was almost too cute to continue, I wanted to leave it the way it appears above. How cute!?
But alas, so that I could give you an accurate posting, I continued.

Finally I carefully placed hot glue around the top of the candle holder and VERY carefully placed the bowl on top. The bowl was almost too small for this part so please measure your items first to be sure that everything will fit together correctly.

 Done!!

I loved this project! It was quick, simple and fun! I have ideas as to what to give people for the Holidays as practical, useful gifts. These are just too stinkin' cute!

Can't wait to put mine to use!!

Animal Rights

**Please note there are pictures attached that may be graphic for some viewers**

Today we have a guest post from my friend Danielle- below is her picture followed by her post. Leave comments & weight in on where you stand on this topic!

Meet Danielle!

Sunday morning, August 12th, 2012, I was leaving the house to go to the store when I noticed a cat laying in the yard. Being the animal lover that I am I approached the cat to make sure it was OK. As I picked up the female feline she began to purr. What I saw next was horrifying, a small caliber gunshot entry wound center forehead just above eye level and an exit wound next to her left ear about 1” rough diameter. Both wounds were infested with maggots so I estimated that the wounds were at least 48 hours old. I contacted the Frankfort Police Department and was told by dispatch that the animal control officer was off duty. So I asked about them sending out an officer and was told there was nothing the officer could do.

Meet Joan

I was able to get the cat to a vet where I stayed with her and assisted in tending to the wounds. The vet stated that her initial thoughts, prior to the cat’s arrival, was that she would have no alternative but to euthanize her based on the severity of a gunshot wound to the head. But after seeing how lively she was the vet saw sufficient evidence in her mind to support an attempt to save the cat. So we began to treat her. In addition to the wounds she was also in a state of malnutrition and grossly underweight. We started to clean out the wounds and maggots but she became upset and began to struggle with us so we had to stop, again showing life and positive reinforcement for the decision not to euthanize. The vet stated that the gunshot wounds were at least 2 to 3 days old supporting my initial estimate of at least 48 hours. She also stated the animal was not feral and was someone’s pet.

As I waited for the vet to contact me on her condition I began to canvas the neighborhood going door to door inquiring about the ownership of the animal. After a short while, I was able to locate the owners by several corroborating interviews of the neighbors. I visited the alleged owner’s home and was greeted at the door by a man so intoxicated he could hardly stand. In his drunken stupor and incoherent ramble I was able to decipher that his wife had left him. His demeanor and tone towards his estranged wife certainly goes to motive. It had been stated by the neighbors that this man had been seen walking around his yard brandishing a firearm. The vet stated Joan, the cat’s newly given name, was shot with a small caliber round, likely a .22 caliber. The most likely intention was to execute the cat from close range. Further inquiries with neighbors lead me to the wife’s work place. I visited her at work were I asked her about the cat and she informed me she separated from him two months ago reluctantly leaving behind one cat and a dog, unable to take them with her. After revealing the horrific tragedy to her she had what I felt was a genuine show of emotion.

The vet called me at 8pm that evening asking me to come to the clinic. So I went thinking she had died. My eyes never expected what I saw when I arrived. Joan was up, all the maggots gone, and wounds showing beginning signs of healing, she was rubbing on me, loving on me, meowing at me, and when I put my hands into the kennel to pet her she grabbed them with her paws for me to pet her, all positive signs to indicate no brain damage and on the path to a successful recovery. I left feeling very optimistic. I went back Monday morning to visit and they informed me that I couldn’t see her and that she was not doing well. I went on to work and waited to hear from the vet. Finally the vet called me… Joan had fallen asleep that night but never woke up. This animal died because some irresponsible human recklessly discharged a fire arm inside the city limits.

Joan was happy prior to passing on

I was told by one person it’s not illegal to shoot a feral animal but it is illegal to shoot a domesticated animal, and stated that Joan was an outside cat thus feral. That is not right on so many levels. By definition the term feral describes animals or plants that live or grow in the wild after having been domestically reared or cultivated. I will argue the being outside in a neighborhood or residential area is hardly feral, although outside at the time the animal is still fed and watered by a human, either by owner or caring neighbor. I would use the term “the neighborhood cat” friendly, loving, and excepting human interaction.  Joan did not deserve this.

It’s not just about the animals. A firearm was recklessly discharged inside the city limits in a neighborhood without regards to the surroundings. Being a mother my children play in my back yard and ride their bikes down the street. Fortunately this time the wayward bullet, after exiting its intended target, did not find a second victim. Next time it could be one of our children or the Mail Man delivering your mail or the neighbor in his living room in the recliner watching TV.

Several authorities and political influences have been contacted including Representative Derrick Graham (D) (House District 57), Senator Julian M. Carroll (D), Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton and Frankfort City Police Chief Walter M. Wilhoite. So far Sheriff Melton and Chief Wilhoite have responded and in a positive and constructive manner. Chief Wilhoite sincerely apologized and stated that an officer should have been dispatched to me regardless of the situation, human or animal and that he will be looking into the error. Senator Carroll and Representative Graham have yet to respond.

Nope! I'm Sticking With Diapers!

That's pretty much what my 3 year old says to me.

Potty Training is not happening in my house!

Believe me I have tried EVERYTHING I can think of... treats for going potty, high fives, new underwear, reinforcing what a great job he's doing as a big boy, I even bought a frog potty chair! No luck.

I even catch him in the middle of pooping IN his diaper and he says "no mommy I finish my diaper" then squats back down.

I don't know what to do with that boy anymore. He starts preschool on Wednesday (the 22nd) and thankfully they will allow him to be in diapers since he's still 3. On top of a speech development we also have a hard headed child who picks and chooses when the potty is a good thing.

We have our good days and we have our bad days- mostly bad. Some days he wants to be completely naked all day in order to use the potty- I guess this is a man thing because I would like to have clothes on personally! I can't let him think that it's okay to be naked all day long!

Any suggestions for this difficult child? I'm open to any ideas!!

Pinned It- Tried It-

If you don't personally know me- I have an addiction to Pinterest! If you have not yet discovered all the greatness that is "Pinterest" I recommend you check it out.

I'm going to start a new post on my blog (at least once a week called "Pinned it- Tried It-" once inside this blog you will discover what I found on Pinterest that I was willing to try- also you will discover if I succeeded in this venture and how I like it.

**I may do this more than once a week depending on how busy I am that week- keep your eyes peeled!**

This is post number 1!! YAY!!

A few weeks ago I found "framed bulletin boards" on Pinterest. Below is the picture that was with that post.

How cute are those? I loved this pin because it was unique and something different than what I had seen before. So I ran with it!

I did not have the money to purchase a large frame like what was pictured above so instead I purchased a simple black thin frame that I could add color to on my own.

Upon buying these I found 2 pieces of printed bulletin board material. I loved the flower print that was on it and couldn't resist but to use that for my new project! I ditched the glass that was in the frame (safely and in the recycle bin) prior to starting this project. I measured the space of the frame twice, then marked the bulletin board where I needed to cut.

This proved to be more tedious than I had expected- this material is difficult to just use scissors with- I recommend a box cutter to get started with the marking. After fighting with the board I placed them in the frames that I had bought and closed the back of the frame. This was the fun part for me- the ribbons I used to add color. I have a stock of ribbons and couldn't decide which would be better for this. Alas I settled on a white glitter and a different lavender. I simply "framed" the board with these ribbons, alternating directions on either board. Elmer's Spray on Glue worked wonders with this project- simply spray, place, hold for 10 seconds, bam- done!

I hung up my "masterpiece" and I personally LOVE this idea! Small for my "office" space, yet bright and catching like me =) ((haha))

I recommend trying this if you want an inexpensive idea for your home office- or even to post a calender on for school or work- have fun with it! You don't have to follow my directions to a "t" or the ones on Pinterest either- make it your own!!

Never Ever?

As I'm sure a majority of you know from a previous blog post- found here- I am a HUGE Taylor Swift fan- I cannot get enough of her music.

In some way, shape or form I can relate to each and every song that she has. It's hard to hate someone who sings like she lives in your head. She's brilliant!

With that being said, there is a new single out- finally! It took forever for this single to be released off her new album "Red" that is due to be on shelves on October 22, 2012. Believe it- I will be in line bright and early!

It took a while for this song to grow on me, by that I mean about 10 times on repeat the night it was released, and a few more times that following day. Apparently it didn't take the World that long though- within 12 hours of being on iTunes the new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was #1 in the WORLD! Way to go Taylor! Another hit under your belt! (duh!)

It's not what you would normally expect from this Country Princess- not your traditional "love song" that you would think she would release. This is quite the opposite actually- more of a "hell to the no- it ain't happenin" type of song.

That's my girl! I knew eventually she would hit that chord, it was just a waiting game to find that "special" guy that was stupid enough to screw up with Miss Swift. She stated that this song was specifically about an ex from the past two years- let's see- who does that narrow it down to?

She has been rumored with a number of men since 2010- who do you think this un-love song could be about?

*Cory Monteith- from Glee
*Toby Hemingway- from Taylor's music video "Mine"
*Jake Gyllenhaal- do I really need to explain who this is?
*Chord Overstreet- from Glee
*Garrett Hedlund- Played Sam in the Tron Legacy
*Will Anderson- idk who this is!
*Eddie Redmayne- some random actor
*Tim Tebow- just sexy! lol
*Patrick Schwarzenegger- surly the last name rings a bell? it's Arnold's son!
*Conor Kennedy- again with the last name? The famous Kennedy's (and Patrick's cousin!)

Woah girlie! Slow down a lil bit- I know you get lonely on the road but DANG! You're giving yourself a bad name!

Anywho- inputs? Comment below with your take on it all!

Shameful Secrets

If you're reading this in hopes of some deep dark God awful secret then you're not going to be happy!
LOL!

I was definitely a 90's kid- to the bone. I was around when Howie Mandel voiced Bobby on Bobby's World, when we all thought the world was coming to an end in 1999. I was also a kid who threw a fit for a Tickle Me Elmo when it was FIRST released, not the horrible knock off "anniversary" one they have now. I had good cartoons, discipline, and more importantly GREAT music!

I was a part of the "pop" generation when it was first cool. I must admit that I was so heavily addicted to the Backstreet Boys that it was not even funny- my walls were COVERED and I went to every concert I could. I knew every word to every song. I was the definition of "Number One Fan" I mean how many people literally choke up and almost puke when they meet someone they think is like God? I swear I about lost my lunch!  Now that they are back- that's cool- but it's not the same- they don't look the same, they don't sound the same, they have changed. When they looked like this:
It was great! And they sounded awesome! But now they look like this:
They look old, a member short, and honestly they sound like old guys- kinda how they look now too!

Clearly that was not a shameful secret- that was something I was proud of- and was not afraid to admit it!

However, do the names Victoria, Geri, Melanie, Melanie, and Emma sound familiar? No? How about: Baby, Posh, Scary, Sporty and Ginger? Yup! Thought that might bring it all flooding back to you! Also known to the World as The Spice Girls!

There it is- I truly loved the Spice Girls, I wouldn't dare to share that news with my friends at the time. But alas, as I hang my head in shame, I knew every word to every song and even (brace yourself) owned the movie! I no longer have the movie or their CD's, though after last night I wish I did. Yesterday the wonderful Spice Girls helped to close the London Olympics. What a job they did too! I remembered why I liked them last night- catchy, up beat, positive, and just fun! No they don't look exactly the same- by no means- but they sounded awesome yesterday! I cannot find a YouTube video from yesterday- the ones from the actual ceremony have been pulled. I would love the share that with you all. But since I can't- you can find the YouTube video with the remix of the music Here!

But since I got to show the BSB I must show then and now pictures of my favorite British ladies!
Then:
Scary-Baby-Sporty-Posh-Ginger

Now:
Scary-Sporty-Ginger-Baby-Posh

Just to clarify- I don't "not like" the BSB because they got old- I just don't like their sound anymore. Also, at least these girls are doing something more with their lives.
Scary (Melanie B) is a mommy now! She has 3 children that she cares for, is married, is in production of a 3rd solo album as well as producing and staring in tv shows. Good for her!
Sporty (Melanie C) is also a mommy to a cutie named Scarlett with her long time boyfriend. Topping the charts in the UK with her 5th album in 2011. She's making a name for herself with acting as well as starting her own record label "Red Girl Records."
Ginger (Geri) is something else all together- very successful in my opinion! Also a mommy to a little girl, she has done many things on top of that. A line of children's books written by her, making solo albums, and even took part as a UN representative! Impressive!!
Baby (Emma) has a fiance she's been with for 12 years, 1 radio show, 2 children, 3 albums, and 4 tv shows under her belt- not bad for the youngest member of this popular girl group!
Posh (Victoria) while I would like to say that I like her- that would be a lie. She seems to be a bit of a witch (please know what I really mean there) I mean she won't even get close to her "friends" in the photo above and rarely is seen with a smile on her face. However, she too has been successful. A single album, 4 adorable kids, an extremely sexy husband, a line of designer jeans, designed clothes for a designer in 2004, does runway modeling- for a mother of 4 KUDOS my dear- to have a body to still do that is amazing in itself!

Ok, enough about the Spice Girls- How about these 90's pop musicians? Do you remember them?

Joey McIntire- in the middle of his New Kids on the Block Days (after the first round & before the one we're going through now)

Jordan Knight- omg! Same as Joey- right in the middle of the NKOTB days

Britney Spears- before the kids, marriages, and drug addictions.

Destiny's Child- the first time around- not when they were changing members every week

Enrique Iglesias before he had the mole removed- when he was still sexy!

I seem to be the only person that remembers "Crush" by Jennifer Paige- do you?

Mariah Carey- after her first divorce, but prior to marrying someone that can be her child! (ugh i loved Nick Cannon without Mariah)

 Shaggy! You know "Angel" right?

Christian Aguilera before she became a chunky old lady that dresses like this still!

N'SYNC- I know I will catch hell for this- but before Lance was gay and Justin was old enough to even think about having sex- let alone getting married.

 No Doubt! I loved them!

Ricky Martin before he came out of the closet- he's still sexy in this picture!

TLC- I think they would still be making music if one of them hadn't died. May she RIP.

Will Smith!! YES!! You cannot go wrong with Will Smith. This was prior to him having kids and getting married- he will never be old to me though!

I KNOW I LEFT SOME OUT- but there were so many great artists from the 90's! Who was your favorite?!? Share in the comments below!!
