Must-have Monday #4

This is honestly the first time I've thought about writing in daysss! (that's a different story for a different post- stay tuned!)

Tonight's must have Monday is a cheap plug for my daughter's girl scout troop!
LOL
IT'S COOKIE TIME!!!!!!

Don't lie, you just smiled and got a bit excited didn't you!?

Cookies are in, so after this week hit up your local grocery store and you're bound to find a troop with a table set up- but if you live close to me- HIT US UP! I will deliver to you!

There was a lot of hype this year about the Savannah Smiles cookie, I honestly think the thing looks nasty but hey, I ordered 2 boxes from a friends daughter that lives in a different area code. See there's the catch with that one, only specific areas are carrying it until next year then it will be everywhere. However, here it is...

Again, I admit they look gross but they can't be that bad right? Either way, the Princess is selling these....

That's...
*Thin Mint
*Caramel DeLite
*Peanut Butter Pattie
*Peanut Butter Sandwich
*Shortbread
*Thanks-a-lot
*Lemonades
*Shout Out

Nobody can resist girl scout cookies!

Go buy some and support the girls in your community!!

Tasty Tuesday #3

This post is from my cell, my apologies for the lack of details with this post.

Today I made goodies for my family, Valentines goodies of course! Since I have a short period of time and my battery could die, I will pick 1 of those super easy baked goods to spread the word about.

Sugar Cookie Cakes
Ingredients:
Sugar cookie batter (your favorite)
Cookie cutters
Cake icing
Sprinkles

Directions:
1- mix sugar cookies as directed by your recipe
2- cut dough with cookie cutters
3- bake as directed by your recipe
4- allow cookies to cool completely
5- spread a small amount of icing on the back of one cookie
6- place an un-iced cookie against the iced one (same shape) to make a sandwich
7- hold cookie in one hand and place sprinkles along the edges of the cookies where the icing is showing between the 2 sandwiched cookies.

Mine turned out great! (along with some funfetti cupcakes!

Must-have Monday #3

Today's "Must-have" is for anyone with kids & an iPhone.

I can't speak for everyone of you but my kids drive me INSANE on long car rides unless they have something to capture their attention. My Princess is the absolute worst because she won't fall asleep in the car as easily as my boys will now. I have found an app that I LOVE with the most accentuation on the LOVE part!

It's called "Cut the Rope" and it's star character is a weird cute little monster that you can't help but to love.

This is "Om Nom" the monster from the "cut the rope" application. (I think he's suppose to be a frog but he looks like a monster to me.)

The point of this game is to help Om Nom get the candy from the rope to his mouth. The object is to collect stars and do it rapidly while cutting ropes to make the candy land IN Om Nom's mouth. This game keeps my Princess heavily entertained and rather quiet except for a little laugh here and there.

At the price of $0.99 you can also have the peaceful car ride that all mothers dream of!

After a little research I think this game might also be available for the iPod touch, and the Android. Happy Gaming!

Respects

My disturbing phone call has concluded and the shock has set in...

Whitney Houston passed away today.

Living with my mom I heard a lot of what she called "pop" and "soft rock" which included Whitney quite a bit.

I recall daydreaming as a child about becoming a famous singer and doing a duet with her. That was a dream of mine for years. One of my all time favorite movies is "The Bodyguard" and always will be. I idolized this woman for so long. I'm in shock about this, she was so young!

Whitney may you rest in peace and know millions loved you and your work.

Snow is Evil

Just thought that was an appropriate title for this post since it has snowed ever since Thursday night and quite frankly I hate snow. I hate weather below 55* actually. Moving on...

Today was a mess, I was exhausted because at 3:37am I was awaken by a text message from our local weather station informing us of a "winter weather advisory," thank you captain obvious!! Then about 2 1/2 hours later we were startled by what sounded like a baby crying. After deep searching we realized it was 2 cats going at it on our back porch! Omg, pick a different house or be quiet!! Lol!

The Princess had a Cheerleading thing this morning, she did really well and even led a side line cheer that she had never done in front of a crowd before. I was so proud!!

My boys haven't been feeling so great today, that's stressful enough in itself.

I must end this post now though, I just received a disturbing phone call...

Tasty Tuesday 2

With Valentines just around the corner I wanted to share a "recipe for 2" on tonight's Tasty Tuesday, perhaps it might spark some ideas to surprise your special someone with a home cooked meal this Valentines Day!

I want to share the "Broccoli Pork Stir Fry" tonight.

I will admit I snagged this recipe from All Recipes and can't wait to try it on my own, I'm sure the hubby will love it!

Broccoli Pork Stir Fry

Prep Time:10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 2

Ingredients:

1 (3 ounce) package pork ramen noodles
1 c warm water
2 tsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
2/3 c cold water
1 1/2 tsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
1 tsp white vinegar
4 tsp canola oil
1/2 pound pork tenderloin, thinly sliced
6 large fresh mushrooms, sliced
1 c fresh broccoli florets
1/2 c julienne'd sweet red pepper
3 green onions, sliced

 To Make It:

1- Set aside 1 tsp of seasoning from seasoning packet (discard remaining seasoning or save for another use).

2- Break noodles into small pieces and place in a microwave-safe dish; add warm water. Microwave, uncovered, on high for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.

3-  In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch, garlic powder, pepper flakes and reserved seasoning. Stir in the cold water, soy sauce and vinegar until smooth; set aside.

4-  In a large skillet heat oil; stir-fry pork and mushrooms for 5 minutes.

5- Add broccoli and red pepper. Stir-fry for 4-5 minutes or until vegetables are crisp-tender and pork is no longer pink.

6- Stir cornstarch mixture and stir into skillet. Add noodles and onions.

7- Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.

I'm not sure of the "nutritional value" of this recipe, good luck with that.
ALSO, feel free to tweak this recipe however you want, but please share your tweaks and reviews with us all so we can try them as well!

Must-have Monday

This weeks "Must-have" is a bit of a stretch, but it wouldn't hurt me to write about it anyway. Maybe draw some attention to the issue at hand.

We MUST-HAVE a cure for type 1 diabetes! A lot of people with type 2 diabetes can handle their own, mostly by losing a little (or in some cases a LOT) of weight- bam, there's your cure... but what about type 1??

Most of you may not even know the difference between the two... let me break it down for you.
Type 2 diabetes is normally caused by over eating and being over weight. (in a nut shell)
Type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas stops creating insulin to break down the sugars in the foods we do eat. (also in a nut shell)

This really sucks! In November 2011 Britty got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Her immune system attacked her pancreas and caused it to literally shut down on itself, no longer creating insulin for her body to use to stay "functioning." This put her in the hospital for almost a week that time. Her blood sugar was over 750 and she could have died right there. But alas, that hard headed butt wouldn't let go easily (lol thank God!) and she came out on top of that particular instance. Since then she's been back in the hospital a few times for what is called DKA. What this boils down to be is ketones that could go to your blood stream and once it's there it's pretty much poison.

Once again, Britty is back in the hospital with DKA, and this time the nurses are trying to kill her by causing her blood sugar to drop entirely too low for her and then hesitating to let her eat anything. This is quite frustrating for her friends and family, I can only imagine how it is to Britty herself.

THERE NEEDS TO BE A CURE FOR THIS!
We can work on drugs for lots of other things but not something as big as this? I mean that weird guy that lives down the street from you- we can cure his baldness but we can't fix my friends pancreas?? What's wrong with that picture?

Anyway, now that I've ranted... I would like to "educate" you on the diabetes basics...

(brought to u by the American Diabetes Association)

*formerly known as "Juvenile Diabetes"
*diagnosed in children & young adults
*body does not produce it's own insulin
*insulin changes sugars & starches into energy needed for daily life
*Only 5% of diabetics have Type 1

Here's the Part that You Might Find Interesting:

Celebrities With Type 1 Diabetes:
*Halle Berry
*Nick Jonas
*Mary Tyler Moore
*Bret Michaels
(there's plenty more that have it, these are the names I thought most would recognize)

Normal People I Know With Type 1 Diabetes:
*Beth Bowen
*Britty Atwell
^that's my best friend damnit!^
we need THIS Britty back- not the one laid in the hospital!

THEY NEED A CURE!!
(jus sayin!)

interesting... lol

Today I took BB to the doc for a well child check up. He was great, big headed, chunky, developing pretty normally all around- except his tongue.

Brace yourself for this- it's quite funny!

His tongue may be too big for his mouth! LOL,apparently this is a "common" problem and can be fixed. If it's too long for his mouth then he'll just have to grow into it- however, if it's too fat for his mouth then they can put spacers in between his jaws to kinda naturally guide them to be larger. (?) This was rather interesting for me to hear since I had NEVER heard of this problem before now. Therefore, I looked up on google what I could about it! Here's what I found... .... ... there ya go- that's what I found- NOTHING! If anyone has read about putting spacers in to fix this problem let me know, send me a link or something so that I can do my research.

To be truthful, when she said that his tounge was too big I laughed and said "what? are you sure? is that possible?" Lol!

While we're on the topic of interesting, Bubby might have to have speech therapy, this is something that I have been discussing with people for MONTHS now and no one believed me, but he's either not hearing correctly or he's not developing his speech the way he should be. Either way, something will be done- I can't understand him and he's almost 3!
Princess had an emotional breakdown on me yesterday, it was sweet really but she cried which in turn made me cry- we were a hot mess! She crawled up in my lap (I was sitting in the floor) and she said "I been meaning to tell you something mommy." and she was SO serious about it all, "I wanted to say that when I'm in high school and college and I move out I will miss you guys so much..." then just started balling. It was deep, way beyond her years seeming as how she's only 6!!! I cried and reassured her that for as long as I was alive I would be there for her whenever she needed me. She eventually calmed down and managed to pull herself together-but that was interesting, I don't know what sparked it, but it was needed to be let out.

I have been thinking of things to do for my daily blog- you know, a theme. I'm thinking "Trending Thursday" but i don't know, any suggestions? With "Trending Thursday" I would share a few things from the news that are the most talked about on the web that day. Or a friend recommended "Tied up Thursday" which sounds a lot more dirty then what it actually is (lol). It follows the same general concept as the other but deals with hot topics like politics. Something that I'm not afraid to voice my opinion on, even though you may not like it. But i don't know, I'm open to suggestions- today's daily theme may be held off until next Thursday.

Well, folks, I'm done for now. I have a house to clean up and children to tend to!
