September 26th History

I have been specifically waiting for this day simply so I could mention one of my favorite American Presidents. President John F. Kennedy. ((This is by no means a hint as to what "party" I'm voting for- I simply love him & his cursed family)).

On September 26, 1960 the very first televised Presidential debate was aired. A nice looking young gentleman by the name of John Kennedy and his opponent Richard Nixon held their first televised debate in front of their awaiting American's.

I'm sure you already know- Kennedy went on to win that election, only to be murdered on November 22, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. (Whom by a twisted turn of events was murdered 2 days later leaving a court house.)

Now I'm not saying he "deserved" this punishment but at the same time- you get what you give and our President surly didn't deserve to be shot straight through the head. If the shoe fits right?

In an ironic turn of events, Jack Ruby was convicted of the murder of Lee Harvey Oswald and in January of 1967 he died of lung cancer.

While this story doesn't end well for anyone involved in it- it's a great piece of American History that I will make sure my children know about. President Kennedy was wonderful...

With that- look at how things have changed in the past 52 years. At that time it was a huge deal to have a debate on the television- heck it was a big deal to HAVE a television. Now there's one in every room of the house and I'm begging the political commercials to stop.

My how simple things use to be...

September 19th- This Day In History... x2!

There wasn't anything FANTASTIC that actually happened this day in history...

Nevada was the first to set off an underground Atomic Bomb- no one died and I honestly don't see the purpose in that

However on September 19th, 2012 former President George W. Bush asked congress for permission to use "any means necessary" against Saddam Hussein.  I don't like that this was "history" because it shouldn't have come to this to begin with... some idiots attacked our country without permission- why do we need permission to "return the favor" ya know?

Anyway- since regular history irritated me on this day... let's move on to my other "thing" - I love music!

So on this day in MUSIC history...

Both in 1981: Simon and Garfunkel reunited in New York- let's face it- they're awesome!! ((yes i kinda live outside of my generation! lol) And... The Rolling Stones album "Tattoo You" began it's streak at #1 on the charts for 9 weeks!

Perhaps next weeks "day in history" will be slightly more entertaining! LOL

Happy Reading!

Giving Away a Ghost?

For those that missed an earlier post where I gave away a build a bear gift card- I stated in that post how much I LOVE Build-a-Bear Workshop. It's probably one of my favorite places to take my kiddos when we have "our" time together.

With that- I had stated on my Facebook page (found here) that I would be giving away the orange Halloween cat that was released a few years ago and has now been discontinued. However, a sweet little girl saw it sitting in my bedroom and fell in love with the kitty so how could I tell her no? How sweet is she?

So clearly she got the cat- I couldn't tell her no!!

Instead I AM going to give away a Halloween ghost from Build-a-Bear. Though it can still be purchased on their website and on eBay from other sellers, this ghost is hard to find in the stores around the country.

He's roughly 19 inches tall and solid white with a small red heart shape over where his heart would be, assuming he was ya know, living. lol. My kids favorite part of this ghost is that his eyes and heart glow in the dark!!

(this is a stock photo from build-a-bear)

I will personally throw in the Halloween boxers that were purchased for this ghost- they are orange and so cute because the little ghosts on them also glow in the dark!

My Mirena Story

I love my babies don't get me wrong- I wouldn't trade them for the world but I was 26 years old and 3 kids- it was time to do something- the pill wouldn't cut it nor would a condom but I needed a birth control that would actually WORK the way that it should have.

So on December 9, 2010 (6 weeks after my baby was born) I allowed my doctor to implant "Mirena" an Inner Uterine Device (IUD) that was to control birth and allow me to have intercourse with my husband without fear of becoming pregnant. This was what I had been searching for- I thought!

I was told from my doctor (whom I love and do not blame at all) that I would experience some uncomfortable pressure and possibly some bleeding following the procedure for maybe the first two to three days. I trust this man with my life and the life of my children so I said "okay, great thank you!" as I went on about my way. Four months later (April 12, 2011), I was STILL bleeding from that first day, it was awful the cramps that I was experiencing. I scheduled to see him that week, he performed a pap-smear, and a vaginal exam, luckily I had stopped bleeding that morning and this was able to be done properly. He informed me it had settled into place and all looked well and the bleeding I was experiencing was from the IUD trying to "settle" into its new home. I assumed and hoped he was right and went on my way. The next 16 months I would not wish upon anyone.

I had nausea, major cramps, heavy periods, migraines, loss of a sex drive, and weight gain. The migraines and nausea usually went hand in hand and happened at least once a week, sometimes more. I gained about 10 pounds, bled for a minimum of 10 days a month, and cramped until I was in tears with a heating pad curled up in bed. But I needed this birth control- I'm very fertile and at the time didn't want my tubes tied. Nothing else worked. So I tolerated it as long as I possibly could.

Each month my periods lasted longer and longer, whether it be a few hours, or an extra day- it felt like it would never end. I had been placed on a 2 week prescription of estrogen in June of 2012 to help calm the bleeding down and help re-regulate things in that department. This seemed to work, until July 12, 2012. I began what I assumed would be my "normal" period and crossed my fingers. I called the doctor office TWO WEEKS later and said something had to give- the bleeding wouldn't stop. I was then placed on another prescription of estrogen, a month long and twice the milligrams.

August 10, 2012 I finally stopped that period- a MONTH y'all a MONTH! I thankfully hadn't bled since then.

I went for a doctor appointment on September 6, 2012 and had an ultra sound done as well to "find the birth control" apparently it can maneuver its way around and go where it pleases in some people. Thankfully, mine was where it was suppose to be. However, I had a cyst caused by the IUD. The size of a large chicken egg.on my left ovary. This has been causing the cramping and excessive bleeding. All caused by my birth control. All things I wasn't warned about- or things that weren't put in the pamphlet they give you. I was stunned and confused at the same time.

Upon the removal of my birth control that day we discussed plans of sterilization. Tied tubes or plugs, it's all up in the air right now because of the cyst. The cyst itself may have to be removed in 6 weeks if it doesn't go away or I may have to have plus put into my tubes if the cyst goes on its own.

Since that day, I have bled, it's called the "Mirena Crash" and it's where your body is no longer receiving that extra hormone from the birth control to maintain things. I'm a mess. The cramping is picking up but that is from the cyst that is use to feeding off of the Mirena as well.

I sincerely hope that anyone who is interested in this birth control PLEASE do your research first and know everything before going in it. Do not be blindfolded in these situations.

Good luck to you all!!

UNreal UNjunked Candy

Upon being approached to do a review for this candy I became very excited to try something more healthy to the alternative.

UNreal Candy has less calories, sugar, carbohydrates, corn syrup and all that other nasty junk than their popular counter parts. I will not lie to you- I am a sucker for M&M's and Milky Way Bars, so when I seen that UNreal had those with less "junk" I knew that was what I had to try!

UNreal 47 is the version of M&M's I tried along with my husband and a few friends (even the baby of the family- my 20 month old).

Upon first look we all thought how attractive the package was and how bright the candy must have been. It was light weight and very cheap- the regular candy was more expensive at the CVS I went to. That already had my attention. As we opened the package we were slightly disappointed. The colors were dull and it didn't appear to have as many in it as a normal bag of candy. (Which I would usually split with my kids, I wouldn't have been able to do that with this package)

Tasting it wasn't much better. Remarks were made such as:
"Tastes like cheap Halloween Candy from the dollar store"
"This tastes like it's sat on the shelf for months"
and my favorite
"Tastes like feet"
((My friends are brutally honest at times))

I personally didn't like it, it seemed to be dull tasting with the lack of extra "flavor" hat I like to call chocolate- it seriously lacked that taste.

However, my 20 month old tore it up- wouldn't stop eating til they were gone.

I by far would pick M&M's, a few extra cents for a lot more candy and better taste.

The next candy I tried was the equivalent to a Milky Way bar. This is known as Unreal 5.

Again the attractive package and it was cheaper and the exact same size as the normal candy bars. I was more in approval with this one from the beginning. Opening it, it looked to be a normal candy bar, could have fooled my kids any day of the week. This time only my husband and I tried this one, it wasn't something that could be broken apart into multiple pieces to share, nor is a Milky Way bar.

The taste at first, it was different. It took us a few bites to determine whether it was a good different or a bar different. It seemed thicker, chewy, and yet it was still edible. The caramel was awesome- that was probably my favorite part honestly. It still lacked the chocolate taste and was almost TOO chewy for my liking.

It was decent though, until the after taste hit and I wanted to gag, it tasted like old candy you find like 4 months after Halloween. I couldn't eat this again. This was wonderful until it was gone then the taste was awful.

So again, I would go with the nationally known brand of Milky Way.

But to each their own, we all have different tastes- pick one up at your local CVS store and give it a try! There are 5 different ones to try, I didn't try the other 3, they may be much better.

Happy Snacking!!
